Helmut Newton / His life , his work , his photos ...
Newton was born in Berlin on the 31th of October 1920.Interested in photography from the age of 12 when he purchased his first camera.
He left Germany because of 'Nazi' when he was 18 years old and travelled to Singapore.In 1948 in Australia met and got married his beloved actress June Browne.Meanwhile Newton set up his own studio and worked on fashion and theatre photography.
His first joint exhibition took place in May 1953 and he cooperated with Henry Talbot years later.Their friendship continued even after Newton leaves Australia for London where he was offered a 12-month contrast with British Vogue.
He travelled to Paris to work with French and German magazines and finally returned to Melbourn to sign a contract with Australian Vogue.
Newton settled in Paris in 1961 and his work appeared mostly on French Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.He established a particular style marked by erotic,stylish scenes often with sado-mazochistic and fetishistic subjects.He also worked in portaiture and more fantastical studies.
In his later life,Newton with his wife June lived together in Monte Carlo and Los Angeles.On January 2004 (aged 83) had an accident and died.
The Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin is opened shortly his death.
